This year as I’ve been exploring my place in the universe I’ve begun developing a deeper relationship with the Earth that holds me, and I find that I want to be outside amongst its wonder 90 percent of the time. April is Earth month, and while April is near its end, our celebration of the Earth doesn’t have to end with it. The Magical Mindful Day by Deborah Salazar Shapiro shows us how we can carry this celebration with us, continually caring for our home in the months and years ahead.
The Magical Mindful Day is a charming and whimsical story that reminds us everything is connected and how important it is to remain mindful of the world around and within us. In this visually stunning children’s book Gaby and her best friend, Baba, are shown the wonder of being mindful, how they can create change, and the importance of being kind to everyone and everything.
“I am a proud immigrant who wants to contribute to the well-being of all living beings. Growing up in El Salvador, witnessing the effects of a civil war, natural disasters, and extreme poverty taught me at a very young age to appreciate the things I had,” says Salazar Shapiro, an instructor of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
The children are our future, and it’s important to instill this practice of respect and reflection in them from a very young age. But this book isn’t only for children; adults can get just as much from this delightful tale! We often forget how important the Earth is, how connected we are to it. We forget what it’s like to truly feel the grass beneath our feet, the sand between our toes, the wind on our face…we take it for granted and this story does a marvelous job of reminding us to be thankful. Wisdom for all ages, it’s a book everyone should have on their shelves.
